5 of 5 Great Value! December 19, 2009
Reviewer: A. Bell from Reno, Nevada
To be honest, I did not get my hopes too high that this would last more than 10 seconds of flight. After all, what can you expect from a RC helicopter for less than $30.
Boy was I pleasantly surprised! This thing packs a ton of fun into each dollar spent.
First, it is much bigger than I thought. I was expecting a palm-sized craft. This thing is over a foot long and about 8 inches high! And It comes pre-assembled! Frankly I don't know how they can design, assemble, and ship these things across the Pacific, sell them for less than $30, and still make a profit. It is amazing!
The battery charging cycle is simple and straightforward. I was extremely cautious on my first "flights" out of fear of destroying it. I spent the first charge cycle just getting the feel for the controls as I "drove" this thing around on a very smooth surface. It never left the ground. On the next charge cycle I was a little more confident and got it into the air. It crashed into just about every piece of furniture in the living room, including some hard landings on the floor. Some of these were pretty bad crashes. The only damage incurred was to the skids, but nothing that could not be fixed with super glue and zip ties. I am surprised at how robust this craft is. The blades have smacked into plenty hard things and they are still intact.
As time passed I learned more about its response to the controls. On the fourth and fifth charge cycle, I was flying in confidently around my garage. I can pretty much get it to go where I want now. I even flew it outside a few times, but be warned, the slightest breeze will start to carry it away. It can't handle moving air very well at all.
Overall I am extremely pleased, broken skids and all. This thing a bargain at $30!

For the novice this is a stable heli.It will fly outdoors in NO wind condition and if you add a little weight to the nose it will fly forward very well.Hard to beat for the money.

5 of 5 The Helicopter to Get March 26, 2009
Reviewer: C. Drury from USA
I've done a lot of research on small helicopters, and I've had one other and played with a few. This one is by far the best you can get for the money. Syma's helicopter's are practically indestructible. This one flies great indoors, and you can actually steer it. The blade on the back and 3 channel controller allow you good control. I've been able to fly around, land on a table, take off again, and fly back and hand catch it. For the price, you can't beat it.

I purchased this Syma helicopter as a present for my father after I purchased an Airhogs helicopter for myself and had a blast playing with it. My Airhogs helicopter is only 5 to 6 inches long and I guess I expected the Syma S001 to be similar in size. When it came in I noticed that the box was huge so I looked for the dimensions, which were in millimeters so I had to convert it over to inches, I discovered this thing is about 15 inches long and my Airhogs helicopter could easily fit inside of the cockpit of the Syma. It is hard to believe that this is listed as an indoor helicopter. The controls are a little on the touchy side, but it is pretty stable and much easier to fly than an Airhogs helicopter and for the same price. I will say that the landing skid is pretty cheap, it breaks with a hard landing or two. I definitely think that the landing skid could be stronger because of the weight of the helicopter. The motor is plenty powerful, and the battery seems to last a decent amount of time. Overall I'm pretty impressed with this helicopter for the price.
